The Reel North Film Festival has rapidly evolved from a once-yearly weekend of exciting films, to an bimonthly showing of wonderful double-bills on an ongoing basis.

 

The next Reel North night is Saturday, May 24, 2008.  Tickets for both films (as a double-bill) are $5.00 at the door. 

 

The films are:

1) I'm Not There - 7:30 pm.  Nominated for Best Supporting Actress (Cate Blanchett) at the 2007 Academy Awards. A spectacularly cinematic interpretation of the life of musician Bob Dylan, brought into being through the efforts of six distinct actors.  A movie biopic unlike any other, and one of the last appearances by the late Heath Ledger.  With Christian Bale, Richard Gere, and Julianne Moore.  Directed by Todd Haynes (Far From Heaven).

 

2) The Savages- 10:10 pm.  Nominated for Best Actress (Laura Linney) at the 2007 Academy Awards.  Jon (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and Wendy Savage (Linney) are two siblings who have spent their adult years trying to recover from the abuse of their abusive father. Suddenly, a call comes in that his girlfriend has died, he cannot care for himself with his dementia and her family is dumping him on his children. A deeply nuanced examination of family obligations with terrific performances from two of Hollywood’s most valuable assets.
